Great chest, excellent price
I bought this chest to hold a decorative comforter set that my wife and I got for Christmas. As usual, Amazon shipping was fast and free.
The chest arrived in six pieces - the top, bottom, and four sides, two hinge stops, and two bags of hardware. The instructions are mediocre, but the installation process is pretty straight forward even without good directions. The chest is held together with screw-in locks and pegs. I found the holes lined up perfectly and everything fit together snugly. The installation only took an hour, including a few minutes for deciphering the directions at the beginning and 15 minutes at the end to to switch the hinge locks to the correct sides.
The piece is an attractive black veneer, which is what we wanted to match our black veneer bedroom set from Value City. The hinges operate smoothly and the chest sits flat on our wood floor.

Disappointing merchandise
The Carolina Cottage Camden Blanket Chest in Antique Black was purchased at an excellent price. However, the styrofoam packing used to protect the chest during shipping rubbed the components of the chest during shipping. This created at least 25 long very narrow areas on the chest where the black finish was rubbed off to the bare wood. We purchased the chest to give as a gift and time did not permit returning it. My husband spent over two hours with a fine brush and satin black enamel touching up those areas. This is not something that we expect with quality merchandise.
Should've taken more heed to the previews!!
Hmm..where do I start? It was relatively inexpensive to comparable pieces of furniture, so I gave it a shot. I make it a point to read the previews and their advice has steered me away from certain products. They also, have reaffirmed my decisions for other products on occasion.
As I stated before, it was inexpensive, but I feel that I was given a very poor product for the money. The packaging was shabbly put together and the finish was very uneven. The instructions were very difficult to decipher (especially since it was calling out parts that were not even in the assembly). I managed to use a little common sense assembly skills from the past, but it's difficult when you don't even have the correct number of parts. I called the company, the gentleman seemed apologetic and said, "I'll send out the whole entire hardware kit so you'll have spares", which I appreciated. I decided to try to go further with the assembly process when I discovered that one of the side pieces...
